An ELAN LSA is positive, a team player, motivational, flexible, creative, and innovative with a supportive nature, as well as being confident, calm, consistent and resourceful with experience supporting pupils in a classroom environment, with Special Educational Needs or disabilities (SEND).

You will work closely with the class teacher to resource and adapt planning and support high quality teaching and learning across all subjects. You will help to create learning environments where pupils can expand their knowledge. You will work with the school community to uphold our trust and school values.

You need to be proactive, energetic, and committed to engaging pupils, developing their desire to learn. You will help to inspire them to be confident and independent. You will also need to be calm, patient, sensitive and able to comfort children when they’re upset.

This is a small group work role.

You should have the following experience:

- working with children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) or other high-level needs such as global delay and

- working with children who have Social Emotional Mental Health (SEMH) needs

- knowledge of how to support communication with strategies such as PECS (Picture Exchange Systems) and Makaton

- supporting children with personal care.

We are a dedicated Autism Hub within Milton Park Primary School, providing a nurturing and supportive environment for pupils with Autism and other associated difficulties. Our purpose-designed facilities and welcoming staff create a wonderful atmosphere for both learning and personal growth.

Key Responsibilities:

• Support Pupils: Work closely with pupils diagnosed with Autism and other associated difficulties, providing tailored support to meet their individual needs.

• Communication: Utilise Makaton or other visual communication approaches to enhance understanding and interaction.

• Collaboration: Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and other staff to implement individualized education plans.

• Engagement: Foster a positive and inclusive environment, encouraging pupils to participate fully in school activities.

• Monitoring Progress: Assist in tracking and reporting on pupil progress and development.

Qualifications:

• Experience working with children with Autism and other associated difficulties.

• Proficiency in Makaton or other visual communication methods is highly desirable.

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

• Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for supporting children with special needs.

• Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
