An ELAN nurture group assistant is organised, able to form deep and meaningful working relationships with both children and parents/carers, has effective time management, good listening skills and the ability to deal assertively with confrontation.

As a nurture group assistant, you will offer individual and group support for children and young people, focusing on health and wellbeing, developmental needs, behaviour, social skills and relationships. To work flexibly in partnership with other service providers across the primary age range of children and to make positive changes, access other services, prevent school exclusion and improve family relationships.

You will work with the pastoral team and support children with emotional and/or social problems, in an active and reactive way. Addressing difficulties which are impacting upon pupils in order to support achievement through a range of suitable activities such as anger management, self-esteem and confidence building.

Key responsibilities:

• Support pupils through transitions in school, between schools and in their personal lives to ensure continued engagement with school & learning.

• Record case notes professionally and keep securely.

• Work with pupils who are subject to a safeguarding plan and attend safeguarding meetings as requested by the school.

• Engage and develop relations with parents.

• Extend and develop children’s aspirations through focused and targeted one-to-one, group, workshop, class and whole school work.

• Use school resources effectively and in line with policy and practice.

• Work effectively as part of a team.

• Develop and maintain effectiveness as a member of the school staff by taking responsibility for own continuing professional development.

• Participate in or complete relevant training courses including any school and network based CPD activities.

• Undertake any other duties commensurate with the grade of the post

• Ensure compliance with all health and safety legislation and associated codes of practice and policies.
